Doves mate for life. The standard wedding release is two doves released from a decorative white basket which can be decorated in theme colors. The release is conducted usually on the steps of the church as the couple prepares to leave or during an outdoor ceremony. Additional birds can be released for a multitude of reasons, for example in memory of a deceased loved one such as a parent or grandparent. In some instances, additional doves are released for members of the wedding party signifying their willingness to go off into the future with the bride and groom and assist them on their marriage journey.
