At nearly every release, someone asks the question about where the birds go. These are Rock Doves that are related to the homing pigeon. Their instincts and training will cause them to return home to their loft, usually in time for the next meal. They are extensively trained, well cared for and are fed a special diet. (Peanuts are only an occasional treat). They receive preventative vaccinations.
All birds used for releases have been trained out to at least 20 miles and some have been as far as 100 miles from our loft. Releases are usually conducted from decorative baskets appropriate to the occasion. The doves will usually flock up, circle the area for a period of time to get their bearings, and then proceed home.
